Sustainable Practices at Woven Heather

Here at Woven Heather, it is important that there is sustainability throughout the creative process. That involves exhausting dyes used in Michelle's practice, and using water in a closed loop within Woven Heather HQ, thereby not throwing away without considering what it can be subsequently used for. This is because the whole process from start to finish, when dyeing or finishing, can use a large amount of water.

Dyes are either acid dyes, using food grade citric acid to fix them to the fibre, or natural dyes using little or no heat. The dye shed gets regular sun, thus warming the space and containers with fibres in them, allowing for no use of power where possible. When needed, a microwave in short bursts helps the process along.
